As we dove into the organizing and production of the event, Jim and Kim introduced us to Alix Devendra, then a licensed attorney in California, turned Coach and Consultant who was using design principles to help attorneys harness the tools of modern entrepreneurship to build a successful, sustainable law practice — to bring greater good to their clients and communities. Working together for several months, we developed Portland’s first Lawyer’s as Changemaker Event: Reinventing the Relationships Between Law, Business & Community: An interactive event with attorneys and social entrepreneurs, working together to redesign the relationship between lawyers and businesses, to make a positive difference in the local community and in the state of Oregon.

This experience was the launch pad for a relationship with Alix Devendra that’s evolved into her being one of our most dear and beloved clients. We were fortunate to have a front row seat and opportunity to cheer Alix on in becoming licensed in Oregon and Washington and adding both states to her practice areas, along with her choice to focus on providing services to small business owners.

So, when we got the call in the early fall of 2019 that she was ready to begin the brand and business development process for the law firm she was opening, we jumped at the opportunity. At the end of 2019, we worked together with Alix on launching a law firm steeped in service, and with values like transparency, compassion, oneness, and generosity. Our business and brand development conversations with Alix were all about purpose, cultivating mindfulness, aligning talent, experience and strengths, and creating greater value for all stakeholders and participants. Our work together has so often felt like the best of what law, business, work and collaborative relationships can be.

Then at the end of 2021, Alix invited Téa Godfrey, one of our long-time colleagues and a recent top-of-her-paralegal-class-graduate to join her in supporting the growth happening in the firm and on the horizon. What has been an exceptional client collaboration working with Alix, has became even richer, more rewarding, more innovative, and more creative, now having the opportunity to work with both Alix and Téa.
