Some of My Favorite Things

COLORS

My favorite color can sometimes change with my mood. However, you can always hand me something blue and I’ll love it!

SEASONS

Always … always fall. There’s something magical about the colors of the leaves changing. Plus, fall has anywhere and everywhere be the perfect backdrop for a photo.

PLACES

Water is my happy place. There is something so calming about the consistent crash of the ocean waves or the clearness of an alpine lake – always setting my mind at ease.

MUSIC

Trying to pick out my favorite music is certainly like trying to find a needle in a haystack of needles. I grew up listening to classics like Van Halen, Pearl Jam, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, and David Gray. And they will always have a place in my heart. I love the music that came from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. But now, I also love old jazz, where you can hear the static of the record that a song was originally recorded on. I love the nostalgia. Pretty much, you can count me in for anything you’re listening to as long as it falls between the 1910s and the 1990s.

BOOKS

Warning, unpopular opinion coming! I’ve never been a fan of fantasy books. They feel too outlandish and I’ve never really connected with them. But, there’s the exception. Ursula K. Le Guin’s EarthSea series had me absolutely captivated for many years as I grew up. Her novels were little portals that could transport me to fantastic worlds and take me on amazing adventures.

MOVIES

The list of movies that I could watch on repeat and not get tired of is definitely long. The ones that make the shortlist are Dirty Dancing, Footloose (both new and old), Chef, and Whiplash

MEAL

Paying all due respect to my mom for cooking this with me as I grew up, one of my all time favorite meals to make and eat is Trader Joe’s butternut squash ravioli with a brown butter, sage, and garlic sauce. I’m drooling now, it’s so good.

DRINKS

I love coffee, iced coffee, cold brew, and espresso. I like to consider myself a coffee connoisseur, but let’s be honest, I’m a fanatic. I love the smell of coffee, the process of making it, and especially drinking it!

PASTIMES

Photography and videography have become the main mediums I use to create art. I believe we all need to create in our lives, and that’s become mine. I love spending time looking at the world with a keen and observant eye to seek out stories that need to be told. I’m also a drummer, a guitar-player-in-training, and a dancer.

CAUSES

First and foremost, I find myself constantly thinking about our climate and thus our future. Climate change is a key part of my life as a young person, and I find myself constantly looking through the lens of how something affects the environment. But, overall, my desire is to help youth discover their own passion to invest time, talent, and treasure back into our community. I hope that one day, when I’m old, our younger generation will hold the innate value of activism and changemaking.

TRIUMPH

Working hard to balance my extracurriculars with my schoolwork to graduate valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT MY WORK AND CONTRIBUTION TO THE WB TEAM

Everyday, work is not work. It’s more like everyday, when I get started with work, I’m entering the classroom. I get to learn and grow with everything I do. It’s one of the most fulfilling experiences.
Getting to work alongside my mama and watch during her moments of genius and magic is kind of like getting front row seats to a Rolling Stones concert. Like, once you’ve been there and done that, could you ever go to another concert? Every day, I get reminded of how incredible my mom really is. She’s talented, creative, and strategic. And it’s quite a combination.

WHAT BEING A PART OF THE WHOLEHEARTED BUSINESS TEAM MEANS TO ME

The team dynamic that Wholehearted Business has is inspiring, uplifting, and, quite honestly, magical. There’s something so right about feeling a sense of comfort and family when you’re at work.
As a young person, getting to work with small businesses that are on the frontier of changemaking, evolution, and conscious business brings me peace and happiness. To get a strong daily reminder of the good in the world does me good.
